How many meals do leftovers cover?

Count whole household meals from leftovers using your own portion planning unit.

Count whole household meals from leftovers using your own portion planning unit.

Quantity only: no food safety, safe storage duration, nutrition, calorie or medical assessment. Check storage conditions, use-by dates and after-opening labels. Defaults are examples, not health standards. Portion is your planning unit, not a nutritional serving. Child and other multipliers must be supplied when those people are included. Partial portions do not count as a whole household meal. Planned difference: positive surplus, negative shortage.

Inputs are calculated only in your browser; never sent to the server, analytics or URL.

Method

Leftover portions = Batch total portions − Portions already eaten

Household portions per meal = Adults × Adult portion multiplier + Children × Child portion multiplier (required) + Other people × Other portion multiplier (required)

Whole meals covered = floor(Leftover portions ÷ Household portions per meal); Remaining partial portions = Leftover portions − Whole meals covered × Household portions per meal

Required planned portions = Household portions per meal × Planned meals (optional); Surplus / shortage portions (+ surplus / − shortage) = Leftover portions − Required planned portions

Portion is your planning unit, not a nutritional serving. Child and other multipliers must be supplied when those people are included. Partial portions do not count as a whole household meal. Planned difference: positive surplus, negative shortage.

This tool does not assess food safety. Do not judge food past its use-by date safe by appearance alone. Follow storage conditions, handling after opening and manufacturer labels. A passed best-before date alone does not mean immediate danger. Opened items come first only on the same date. No date changes or frozen-safe durations are inferred.
