How many shelf levels fit? Shelf spacing planner
Calculate shelf levels and equal clear openings from item height, board thickness and reserves.
Calculate shelf levels and equal clear openings from item height, board thickness and reserves.
Cuboid geometry estimate only. Excludes doors, hinges, rails, posts, shelf supports, curves, handles, deformation, hand clearance and entry paths. Measure the narrowest points before storage. No weight, floor load, vehicle payload, stacking safety or shelf-strength judgment. Defaults are editable examples. Length results in cm; volumes in L. Top/bottom reserve is the combined total. Required height for n levels is n×(item height + level clearance)+max(0,n−1)×board thickness. Display capped at 1,000 levels. Equal openings divide height after subtracting reserves and boards. Use your own item measurements; no standard spacing recommendation.
Inputs are calculated only in your browser; never sent to the server, analytics or URL.
Method
Height needed per level (cm) = Item height + Clearance per level; Used height (cm) = n × Height needed per level (cm) + max(0, n − 1) × Shelf thickness
Remaining height (cm) = Internal height − Total top/bottom reserve − Used height (cm)
Clear opening per level (cm) = (Internal height − Total top/bottom reserve − (Desired levels − 1) × Shelf thickness) ÷ Desired levels
Clearance above item (cm) = Clear opening per level (cm) − Item height (optional)
