Discount calculator

Find the sale price and amount off, the percent off, or the original price.

When you want percent off, a sale price, or the original price before the discount.

Sale price is price×(1−rate÷100). Percent off is (price−sale)÷price×100. Original price is sale÷(1−rate÷100).

What this page does

It finds the sale price and amount off from a percent off, the percent off from the sale price, and the original price from the sale price and percent off. Stacked discounts, coupons, tax, currency conversion, and tips are not part of this page.

Formulas

Sale price is original × (1 − percent ÷ 100). Amount off is original − sale price.

Percent off is (original − sale) ÷ original × 100. If the original is 0, nothing is calculated.

Original price is sale ÷ (1 − percent ÷ 100). If the percent is 100, nothing is calculated.

Examples

20% off 1000 is a sale price of 800 and 200 off. 1000 down to 800 is 20% off. A sale price of 800 at 20% off came from an original of 1000. At 0% off, the sale price is the original price.

Working backwards

Decimals are allowed. Amounts are zero or greater, and percent off is from 0 to 100. Percent off is not calculated from an original of 0. The original price is not calculated at 100% off. Amounts, the percent, and the result are not sent for measurement.

Questions

How do I find the percent off?

Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. If the original is 0, nothing is calculated.

Can I find the original price from the sale price?

Divide the sale price by (1 − percent ÷ 100). At 100% off, nothing is calculated.

Are the amounts sent anywhere?

The calculation stays on this device. Amounts, the percent, and the result are not sent for measurement.
